I need to increase the verbosity of the crash log a little more than the last test patch so can you install the following test patch, open the .docx file that causes this new crash, and attach the crash log?:

Intel:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.2.1-Patch-0-Test-3-Debug-2-Intel.dmg

Thank you for the crash log. It appears that I will need to backport some additional code from the LibreOffice 3.3.4.1 code. This will require about 2 days for me to do. When I have that done, I will post a new test patch for you to try.

I have finished backporting another chunk of the .docx import code from LibreOffice 3.3.4.1 into NeoOffice.

Can you install the following test patch and tell us if either the original crashing bug and the new crashing bug still occur?

Intel:

Have you had a chance to try the last test patch? If so, did it stop the last crash that you found?

Patrick

I'm so sorry, but I somehow did not receive the notification for this thread. (Happened a few times before, and it's not in my spam box.) I'll test this later today.

Hi Patrick,

I can read the re-saved docx now without crashing NeoOffice. However, most of the information in it is gone... There are lots of tables in it, which are still visible. But the contents (text) in the table's cells is gone. So is the TOC and also all of the text body. Chapter numbers are still there but without any text after it.

If I try to select anything in it, there is really nothing there, so it is not a font problem.

(Again, this is not a big deal for me as I don't need to re-save these docx files. But I'm more than happy to help figuring this out.)

The problem that you are seeing is that when you saved a .docx document in NeoOffice, much was lost. Right now, NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code is much better at opening .docx documents than saving .docx documents.

Because saving .docx documents is so limited, we added code in NeoOffice a few versions ago to prompt users to save any changes to as an .odt document to ensure that no data is lost.

Hi Patrick,

I think save as docx should be marked as broken then. Smile Again, definitely no problem here. I was just curious.

Thanks for all the work on the problem with crashing docx files, I really appreciate it.

Kind regards,
Ben

FYI. I have included the fix for this crashing bug in NeoOffice 3.2.1 Patch 1. You can download the patch from the NeoOffice 3.2.1 patch download page.

Hi Patrick,

I have installed that patch, and it works as expected.

Thanks,
Ben
