Check the MD5 sum. This will require you using the Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal). Assuming your download folder is the "Desktop":
Launch a Terminal.
cd ~/Desktop
openssl md5 foo
Replace foo with what you downloaded. This will plunk out a long string of numbers and characters...
if that matches the string of characters and numbers listed in "trusted" places like here and the Downloads section, OOoDocs, private messages, phone calls, face-to-face exchange and OpenOffice.org, then you're golden.
MD5 sums exist to help folks decide if someone is duping them. Take them, and what you download, with a grain of salt.
