I have heard that installing Openoffice.org on a standard iMac (without first installing the Apple X11) and then removing ,by dragging, the X-symbol (I guess of XDarwin, not Orobox) from the Dock to the Applications folder makes the whole iMac crash within hours so that at next boot the display remains black. It causes a kernel panic.

What could it be? Why does this happen? Can someone test it please?

Hi guestman,

that sounds very strange.

You can't drag the icon of running program off the dock. When you drag an icon of a not-running program off the dock, it makes "puff" an the icon is away, but you can't drag it to your Applications-folder. I've tested it (not with the XDarwin-icon).

You know, I have a similar problem. When I put coffee into my coffeemaker (without first putting water into the reservoir) and then turn it on, it heats up the burner underneath the pot, which causes the pot to heat up and explode. What could this be? Why does this happen? Will someone else try doing this and tell me what happens....

Bloody stupid question...

The fact it's an iMac shouldn't make a difference unless the hardware itself is funked up. What version of OS X was mentioned in the reports you saw (point version necessary?).

If you know who's been talking smack about the software, might as well recommend they talk smack here where folks can help them track down what the problem may be and instruct the relevant team, whether it's OOo or XFree or Apple or whomever, to help fix their kernel panic. It's unfortunately not terribly useful to get secondhand bug reports, particularly without further recourse to debug the problem. Please refer them to folks who can help if you get a chance Smile

tested on my iMac rev c.... this is a bogus issue.

OO runs fine on the beasty although a bit slow... and frankly it should run slower then (insert favorite off color phrase)...since it only has 128 megs of RAM on it.
