PostPosted: Fri May 06, 2005 8:19 pm    Post subject: Sources for 680/1.9.xx/2.0 RC builds

A few members of the Mac porting team have, or have in the past, made their builds available for public download. Not all porters will build all milestones or all languages.

Recent builds include a launcher app and those with build numbers greater than m130 also include built-in fondu support.

Please note that these builds are still under development and are almost certain to have bugs of varying degrees. All recent (m130 and later) builds will run on both Mac OS X 10.3.x and Mac OS X 10.4.x, unless otherwise noted by the builder/filename/pathname. Builds will not run on Mac OS X 10.2.x.

Read the directory/path name, file name and any accompanying information in the directory carefully before downloading to ensure you download a build that will run in your language. (Some older builds located at the sites below may only run on one version of Mac OS X, so download a build m130 or newer to be sure.)

If you're planning on using 1.9.xx builds, you should follow the dev@porting.openoffice.org mailing list and the OpenOffice.org IssueZilla (http://qa.openoffice.org) to keep up with the known limitations and report new bugs to the porting team.

2.0 RC3*: http://ftp.stardiv.de/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/rc/2.0.0rc3/

Eric Bachard: http://ooofr.org/telechargement/macosx/2.0/

NAKATA, Maho: ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/

Pavel Janík: ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/680/

Unknown**: http://macosxrc.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/ooomisc/MacOSXrc/

* Replace "ftp.stardiv.de" with any mirror from this list (N.B. urls in that list point directly to OOo 1.1.2, so copy the mirror name/path, not the full URL; see this message for more info.)
** m125, 10.4.x-only, in French

N.B. Pavel's builds pull "straight CVS" and often do not have the latest Mac-specific bug/feature patches included. The other builders typically include the latest Mac-specific patches (from various macosx CWS) in their builds.

Many older builds do not include a "launcher" app like Terry Teague's Start OpenOffice.org. In most cases you will also have to convert Mac fonts manually or use Start OpenOffice.org (fondu is required for either method) or copy the converted fonts from your existing 1.1.x X11 install. Older builds also run on either Mac OS X 10.3.x or 10.4.x, but not both.

These people are among the unsung heros of the OOo family, indeed, the world.
Although I am not a programmer, I think I can appreciate to some degree the many hours that each of you GIVE to the various projects. (My younest son is an independent software engineer.)
Due to your efforts, I have been able to remove MS Office from my computer.
OOo is great!
I am extremely grateful to all of you.
-- feelings ---
I am reminded of an anecdote quoted in my eldest son's history of the Canadian NATO Brigade in Germany ("War Without Battles") in which a German mother asked a Canadian soldier "What are you doing here?" He started to reply that he was part of NATO, defending against the Communist threat. "I know that. What are you doing here? Why is a young man from Saskatchwan, half the world away - why are your here ready to die for me? What have I ever done that you would come over here to die for me?"
-- feelings --
I have a similar sentiment, and I think all of us need to ask "Why are you doing this for us?"
We need to find ways to express our gratitude more often!

I am currently using OS X 10.4 and OOo 1.9.93 from

http://ooo.lab-project.net/~ebachard/MacOSX/2.0/m93/en-US/

It works well for me.
I have encountered no problems in Writer and Calc so far.

I cannot get setup to run for the 1.1.4 version. It may have something to do with my system. I just upgraded to Tiger and I think it is time to clean up the hard drive with a backup, install and restore user data.

Eric

Merci!
Thank you for providing the 2.0 v 1.9.3 installation with StartOffice.
J'ai abandonné 1.1.4.
Avez vous une installation pour v 1.9.101 en anglais?
Je parle anglais seulement.

[I am trying to recall my high school french from the 1950s.
Am I doing OK?]

I downloaded and ran that version and I get a bus error (sig 10) and I get an additional error message about crash_report not existing.

My hopes were up when I saw:

http://ooo.lab-project.net/~ebachard/MacOSX/2.0/m_105/Tiger/

Then I went to:

http://ooo.lab-project.net/~ebachard/MacOSX/2.0/m_105/Tiger/en-US/

What does this mean?

Merci

Is this a tiger-only build, or will it run on panther (10.3.9)? Any sources for recent panther-compatible builds? Thanks!

I didn't do a check this weekend, but the last 10.3.x-compatible build I know of is Pavel's m102 build (at least I assume it's 10.3-compatible; I haven't heard otherwise, but I also haven't installed it yet...).

ericb's been building 10.4-only builds recently, Maho doesn't seem to be building or his server is down, and Pavel doesn't always have a Mac build for each milestone....

This build is Tiger only. I don't know of any Panther builds of the OOo 2.0 branch.

Just an update to this thread:

I've downloaded a running build of the 1.9 betas based on the latest Master Work Space (mws) which is up to sequence 107 with several applied patches for MacOSX (child work space 0Cool and for problems with the gslpatches module.

It is very snappy, but has its own issues.

It will not work with any other language (correctly) than English-US. This is not a problem with OO but may be a problem with MacOSX 10.4.1.
