I downloaded openoffice to have a try - I'm so fed up with Word! - the files downloaded but I may even have installed them correctly (including Xll which I downloaded and installed before I tried the installation for openoffice). However the installation did produce a lengthy error message with a list of files it couldn't find - I had no idea what I was looking for so I dumped the whole thing.
I then downloaded it to my PC - went smoothly. I took a look - certainly looks like it should work quite well.
However, I use my Mac for most things and would love to have a fully functioning word processor that doesn't screw up my files the way Word does!
Any suggestions about how I might get this all going?
Try NeoOffice/J. It is a version of OpenOffice.org for the Mac that does not use X11. Installation is much simpler and it uses native Mac OS X fonts and printing.
