After applying patch 7, neooffice wants me to register! Is this something new?
What are the benefits of registering?

It automatically cuts the price of NeoOffice/J in half!

Yup, it's something new. I believe Patrick has added it to give more prominence to the Donations page to try and increase the funding for the project. If you think NeoOffice/J is a worthwhile effort, then by donating whatever you can afford to the developers will help to keep it going. There are a number of threads about the need for donations - e.g. see the current fund-raising thread in the Random Whatnot forum as an example.

How are you doing with the universal drag 'n drop code? I really like the fixes in patch 8, but I recall this was going to be your big project in the last few weeks. Probably a tough nut to crack..

Best wishes,
Oscar

FWIW, changes in 10.3.8 seem to have affected the DnD solution since Patrick had to track down/remove a number of crashes related to the update and DnD. This is but one of the things that caused the 10.3.8 rants to ensue :/

FYI. "Patch-9" is now out. It contains fixes for regressions that appeared in "Patch-8" such as the "compressed text" bug (i.e. bug 580).

Patrick, you are fast with patch release, but this time I was faster: just one day ahead!

Seriously, when do you sleep? Smile

I'm going to push this patch to VersionTracker and MacUpdate, since the rest of drag & drop is an important new feature...hopefully people will remember that this is beta software as the version declaims Smile

(Seems like Ed was just in the nick of time in getting the email account working again!)

PostPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2005 3:32 pm    Post subject: Is this a "bug" or not?

After DL patch 10, I went on to test the new drag&drop from external applications

I tested D&D with Safari.
D&D an image with an hyperlink 'type in' the url if the document on NeoO is a word processing doc
The same does puts the image in when working on a drawing.

Is this what it is supposed to do? D&D an image from safari onto a text drop is not supposed to create the image put insert the URL?
Should I create a bug report for this ???

This is normal OpenOffice.org behavior. Dragging an image into Writer from another application turns into text. This is because Writer prefers text over images. Not very intuitive, but the way OpenOffice.org works.

However, if you drag an image into Draw from another application, you will notice that the image appears because Draw prefers images over text.

Hmm. One would wish the format depends on what is actually being moved. I don't suppose you can whip up a fix for this?

You mean go through and make significant enhancements to the functionality in Writer, Calc, etc? No. This is not a minor bug. Instead, the OOo engineers just didn't implement this support in many places. Implementing this falls into the same category as redesigning the OOo UI layout.
