Dear All,
Trying to use the spread sheet to calculate a number of figures.
Unable to show the currency of the figures and to show the result of the addition/subtraction etc. The cell only shows the formula.
Am I missing something. Looked the defaults and options.

Have you tried looking at cell formatting? if that is on text, the formula will not be evaluated. Same for setting the currency.

Actually, if you put a formula in a General formatted field, it will be evaluated. However, I recommend setting the cell's format to the desired type of data, be it numeric, currency or percentage. If you still see the formula and not data after changing the format, check the formula for errors such as '\' characters in the formula.

If the Spreadsheet is still just showing the formulas rather than the result.
Go to Tools > Options > Spreadsheet > View > untick Formulas Smile

To change formatting go to Format > cells
Hope that helps.

Thank you for your replies.
I think I was not clear in my first entry.
Formatting the cells I clearly understand, whether date of currency, it is the sum function that appears to have me beat.
Yes I can show currency and dates however the sum function shows
"=SUM(E11:E12)"
rather than the total of the figures, when I save the document on the desktop,
however when I save the file as a pdf it shows the total rather than the formula.

Any ideas ?

Interesting as I use this for several reasons and I have not run into this to add rows containing currency, numeral and percentage. I save as both .sxc and .xls file formats and I don't get this result. Are you trying to print out the file? This I have not tried, yet, but can do if that is where you experience this problem.
