I've successfully used OOo 1.1X both in X11 and via NeoOffice/J and also have got version 1.9X running under WinXP. But I installed a1.9.93 package today on my Mac and have some problems. The various tools (write, spreadsheet, etc.) come up OK, but none of the wizards work. I can't figure out why not.
Also - in the database tool, I can't follow from the Helpfile how to get fields in the spreadsheet record assigned to items in the form page. Sure didn't seem hard in the WinXP version....
There are a number of ongoing problems with running the 1.9.xx builds on the Mac, and the wizards are one of them (some sort of Java mismatch). Builds from different builders have different problems; some don't launch, some don't save, some have broken wizards, etc., so the source of the build is also important.
If you're planning on using 1.9.xx builds, you should follow the dev@porting.openoffice.org mailing list and the OpenOffice.org IssueZilla (http://qa.openoffice.org) to keep up with the known limitations and report new bugs to the porting team.
And in theory this Support forum is for support for released builds (OOo 1.0.3 and OOo 1.1.2); the OpenOffice.org X11 Testing forum is a better place for discussing unreleased/testing builds like the 1.9.xx series.
