I know about the issue with Cocoa, but at some point the need will arise to move in order to keep up.
since the API in tiger is "frozen" according to apple for the future, then would it not be safe to begin moving stuff over?
You can find more about this debate in older postings, so let me just summarise two issues:
1 - Java 1.4 is not fully available on Jaguar and Java 1.5 is not available at all on Panther or Jaguar. Not a good thing.
2 - The switch will take a lot of time and work. Patrick has to make a living so this is not a trivial or short term project.
Having said that, everyone is aware that Java 1.3 and Carbon are running into the end of their commercial life and eventually, that switch is both inevitable and an opportunity to get rid of some other issues.
I hope this is short yet clear enough.
