I missed that Water has a total of 8 posts as of this writing, none of which are particularly helpful although they appear to be attempting to help.

I was sorely tempted to delete this post and send them a p.m. asking them to refrain from offering suggestions when they aren't familiar with NeoOffice, but I decided maybe I'd better seek the wisdom of the group before doing so.

I think Water may be a bit overenthusiastic. Less encouragement and more hard fact would be appropriate.

I wondered if he was a loose spammer first, but the messages were on-topic.

Best wishes,
Oscar

I am still not so sure about Water as some of his posts don't really say anything so I think we should watch him very carefully. In the meantime, I deleted any of the posts that just ramble and essentially say nothing so as not to confuse other users.

As for stephenmorphey, I strongly suspect that that user is a spammer so I have deleted posts that regurgitate answers that I or others had already given in the same thread.

I have not disabled either user yet, but if you see any more questionable posts, then let us know and we will disable their account.

Water has also sent me a PM asking for a NeoWiki account. I don't have the benefit of seeing his deleted posts, but offhand the ones that remain do seem to me to be mostly over-enthusiastic. I'll hold off on granting the wiki account for now, though, until we come to some sort of conclusion.

I agree. Usually we grant NeoWiki edit access when you have proven to provide clear, helpful information. Enthusiasm is nice, but IMHO posting rambling, stream-of-consciousness posts with no facts in them causes more problems for users than not posting at all.

I deleted an off-topic post in a two-year old thread by user MNIce.

Update: Come to think of it, I may have been overzealous and deleted a post that ended up in a wrong thread. It might have belonged here.

We have another spammer, which for once isn't subtle at all (creates topics named "Health Tips", "Internet Marketing", "Benefits of Outsourcing Internet Marketing", and in the ranting forum - probably so they are easier to spot Smile):

I deleted two messages by user brucemendes that looked rather superfluous. But I left a third because it might be useful..

No suggestions on how to proceed further.

Best wishes,
Oscar

Thanks Oscar. I disabled brucemendes' account and deleted the remaining post because Lorinda provided a more useful post in that topic.

PostPosted: Fri Aug 28, 2009 10:24 pm    Post subject: Indian spammers in the iPhone Remote thread

User stephenmorphey (IP: 122.169.8.15 / ABTS-mum-dynamic-015.8.169.122.airtelbroadband.in) made an reasonable, perhaps slightly awkward-English "thanks for these instructions" post on the iPhone Remote thread last week. Today when I returned to the thread (see below), I noticed his signature now has a French link in it (thereby getting around the "5 posts before links" restriction Shocked ).

New user darrenalex "from USA and i also using a i-phone since 7 months" (IP: 122.169.31.191 / ABTS-MH-dynamic-191.31.169.122.airtelbroadband.in) just posted a reply that was clearly an attempt to start spamming.

Both users should be disabled (and the signature URL removed from stephenmorphey, if possible).

Smokey
