OK, removed that user and added a new account with that e-mail address to prevent it from being reregistered.

Must be the first time I've seen a gmail account used by a spammer.

I am wondering if it would be an idea to have a bot killer setup to stop the unwanted spam.

I am a mod at a couple of other sites were there is a bot killer setup and there would be luck to be any spam coming in.

It maybe an idea to look at guest postings this may also be atrracting some spam.

Just some suggestions to help combat it.

Very interesting. Do you have any links to things other sites are using? Right now there are some bot measures in place but are only for individual posts (e.g. there must be a pause of x seconds inbetween consecutive postings).

Ed, please delete/disable/whatever registered spammer "ccc". FWIW, its IP was 194.63.141.194 when spamming.

IP banned. It also wouldn't surprise me if spambots were another reason registrations have climbed now that it's slightly trickier to do the anonymous postings...

ed, Ed, ED, Confused The heck with Spambots.
I CHOOSE to believe that (some/many/a-few) users registrations are up because NeoOffice is the Finest Office Suite application for the Mac. The world is discovering "our" little secret. And an even better value because it's ... FREE!
That's my opinion and I'll stick with it. (unless Ed offers me more ... beer!)

After seeing this I locked The question from a new user. I didn't delete it since there were several posts from our users.

Sorry for the delay in getting a reply back

Here are a couple that could help stop the bots

Code:
http://phpnuke.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=7307

http://webscripts.softpedia.com/script/Modules/PHP-Nuke-Addons/WebCrawlers-7726.html

http://nukecops.com/article5883.html

Hopefully one of these should do the job nicely

Cool
