I think your questions are fully answered on the page http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/index.php/NeoOffice/J_1.1_Announcement

Personally, I like NeoOffice, but that's just me and about a 1000 other people on this forum Smile.

Good luck,
Oscar

Your problem is most likely caused by not having X11 installed on your Mac (it's an optional install--at OS install time--in most cases). That said, I agree with Oscar (and the OOo Mac download page Smile) that NeoOffice/J is probably a better fit for you.

To see the differences between the two, there's a small list on the OOo Mac download page and we also have some comparison charts in the wiki.

Fro:

To deinstall NeoOffice/J, you go to the Applications folder and drag the NeoOfficeJ icon to the trash. You can also access the Library directory under your login folder and drag the NeoOfficeJ-1.1 folder into the Trash. Empty the Trash, and NeoOfficeJ is off your system.

Generally, yes, drag the OpenOffice.org folder from the Applications folder to the trash. Depending on which version and whose build of OOo you used, the ancillary files (user preferences, etc., which could be quite large) could be in many different places all over your Mac. The official OOo 1.1.2 build uses the ~/Library/Preferences/OpenOffice.org1.1.2 folder.
