Hey all,

I'm trying to help someone out with NeoOffice. They want text to type right to left under calc. They have the official release & have already installed the Hebrew language pack. I seem to recall reading either it was an option somewhere within the settings or it was tied in with what OS X has set as the locale.

I can't quite remember what the solution was though. Any help would be great Smile.

Cheers,
Rick

The default text direction is determined by the preferred language setting in the /Applications/System Preferences application. If you set your preferred language to Hebrew, Arabic, or some other right-to-left language and then start Neo/J. Neo/J will, by default, write in right-to-left.

If they wish to use Neo/J with a UI in a language other than Hebrew, etc., and still do RTL, this is also possible.

If a RTL language is present in the list of languages in the System Prefs (i.e., 2nd, 3rd, etc.) when you (first?) launch Neo/J, Complex Text Layout (RTL + Indic scripts) will be enabled by default and the RTL/LTR buttons will appear in the toolbars of the various modules by default (otherwise, go to the Preferences, expand Language Settings, select Languages and check the box for Enabled under the Complex text layout section).

Now you can choose text direction for a document or paragraph or whatever (basically, until you switch back to LTR); this is done automatically when you start up with under a RTL locale.

Calc, however, seems to have much poorer RTL support than Writer, so even under a RTL locale/UI column A does not appear on the right edge of the screen, nor does hitting the RTL button make text begin at the right edge of a cell Sad

Thanks for the replies Patrick & Smokey. I'll pass this info on & hopefully either suggestion will be the solution they're looking for.

Cheers,
Rick

That's not a bad thing. It just means that since you are handling so many questions, I can spend more time fixing bugs. Wink
