This review of StarOffice 8.0 gives a taster of some of the improvements we can expect with OOo 2.0, with better compatibility with MS Office formats being one of them (e.g. "Calc's row limit has also been increased to 65536 to match Excel's")

Edit: Note, not all those improvements will be present in OOo as StarOffice is Sun's propietary version of OOo, which means it has some additional features that aren't open source so can't be included in OOo.
