I have used Word/Excel fairly intensively and I find that to often when Word is active that other programs tend to go haywire. Once I quit Word, then the programs tend to act normal again. And today Word crashed, taking all of my recent changes with it.
I do not have these problems with NeoOffice/J and I wonder if others have similar experiences.
But I find performance lacking on my loaded Mac Mini. How does anyone else find the performance on faster machines. Does multi-processing help any or is an iMac the best bang?

Multiprocessing is not a great performance booster for NeoJ since for the most part the app is either idling or doing things that aren't terribly parallel tasks (like measuring the width of font characters). What really helps with the iMac & G5s is more the memory subsystem than the processor.
Another nice thing in my experience is that the auto-save of OOo/NeoJ is usually pretty good at saving recovery files. It depends how badly it crashes. I also haven't used Word 2004 yet...the old Word v.X had some quality issues
