Please make optional the automatic font convertion that OOo 2.0 RC3 does via fondu. I mirror Mac OOo & NeoOffice inside Sun, and had to remove the calls to fondu done by the RC3 launcher applescript. Sun employees need to use the same fonts as other Star Office users, so automatically converting possibly 1000s of Mac fonts into the OOo truetype fonts folder is intrusive and unwanted.

Such unexpected behind the scenes conversions should ONLY be done at the user's permission!

Alan:

I agree, however the choice is up to the OpenOffice.org MacOSX porting team. I think that this was looked into and it was not possible to bring up a window asking if you wanted to run Fondu or not (plus, some Mac Users do not know what Fondu is.) I would suggest sending a message to dev@porting.openoffice.org with your request.

if i remember right, start openoffice.org would let you drop the fonts in to be fondu-ed (is that a word?) that may be a better way to do it (and a note in the read-me)

I previously installed OOo 1.1.2 in my eMac long before NeoO, so I presume from the conversation here that now needless 1.1.2 fonts are still haunting my hard drive? Is there any Applescript that can purge my eMac of any OOOo fonts which NeoO doesn't use?

Thanks.

Not if you deleted the OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 folder in its entirety - the converted fonts are (will have been) placed in the /share/fonts/truetype folder within the OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 folder. In the new OpenOffice.org they are placed in a similar location but within the actual OpenOffice.org 2.0 package.

Thanks for the tip! Looks like you were right on the button!
