|
Greetings:
Something strange has happened:
Shortly after applying the 1.8 2a patch hack, when I boot up NeoO 1.1, hitting the menu bar wipes it out. You can control toolbar buttons okay but hitting anything in the menu bar sends it to never-neverland. Not exactly sure whether it's attributable to the 1.8 2a patch or 1.8. 2 one because I didn't check it out before. Now I can't run NeoO at all without zapping it by hitting the menu bar. A box stating something about "dialog.xlc input/output error" once popped up during such a crash when it just froze instead of just popping out. I did a full disk permissions thing AND Onyx thing but no go.
If it means anything, I've been vigorously testing out Mac OOo 2.0r3 lately, and maybe it converted a NeoO file which I saved again as a .sxw and had subtly changed it enough to gag NeoO somehow?
Also, when I did the latest 1.8 patches I always did it on a fresh copy of NeoO 1.1 if it means anything.

Jim:
Delete the contents of the ~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice (I know it should be NeoOfficeJ) directory if it exists. It looks like you have run into a problem I found when I started testing the Alpha builds and it caused a problem with opening files (although it looked fine at the time.) You might need to move the NeoOfficeJ-1.1 directory in addition to clear this problem.

No go. I roto-rootered everything in Prefs and Library folders with OOo and Neo in it and NeoO's menu bar is still acting up. Looks like till this is resolved I'll have to create tool bar counterparts of menu bar items to work with NeoO or just continue on with Mac OOo 2.0r3. Will keep plugging,
Envy you sunning out in Kuwait!

Are you running any haxies that modify anything in the menubar like APE, Menu Cracker, Grammarian, etc.?

Yea, wish I'd Grammarian!, but no go. I sequentially disabled with restarts in-between APE, Menu meters, Backlight, TurboMac Accelerator, X-Assist even Stuffit Magic Menu (takes awhile in a 1.25gHz eMac 10.3.9). Only thing left up is dotMac; don't know how to turn that off, but never gave me any trouble before. All these menu bar accessories were up running long as had NeoO, so it must be some deep corruption because I'm using original vintage NeoO1.1 minus patches and still getting same behavior. Contemplating temporarily taking Mac OOo 2.0r3 totally off my system and see what happens. That's the only new variable in this whole thing. But maybe tinker such later this week; I need it for wallet writing right now.

Greetings:
After long and tedious whittling down NeoO's library files, I've determined that the problem occurred with an obviously corrupted writermenubar.xml in soffice.cfg. I can't prove it but I also suspect some failure link with dialog.xlc because it was missing in NeoO's user folder. Just speculating, but maybe because both Mac OOo and NeoO seem to use dialog.xlc that they were somehow crossed in transit and ended up corrupted? I dunno; You're the OOo mavens! I'm just glad to have NeoO up and running again without clicking the menu bar taking it down.
A nifty safety automatic feature for NeoO and OOo would place a backup total configurations/prefs file somewhere else on your disk.

I don't it. Neo/J and OOo X11 maintain separate preference folders and all paths in the Neo/J and OOo X11 preference files have absolute paths back the installation that created them.

I agree. NeoOffice and OpenOffice use different files and paths to store those files in. Thus a munged NeoOffice installation will and should not involve any files used by OpenOffice.
