How does one insert page numbers on documents longer than one page?
When I click on page number/insert, all I get is a number placed at the end of a sentence. This is crazy. Any other program has the page numbers placed at the top, bottom, right, or left of each page. Am I missing something here? Please help.

Generally, like in other word processing applications, elements that repeat on multiple pages are inserted in a header or footer (or use master pages...).
Insert > Footer > Default (or Header if you want it at the top)
Maybe is more difficult if we compare with others word processors but it's very "pedagogical": all the DTP (Desktop Publishing Programs) applications works on the same way... (and if you compare the way of work with footnotes in InDesign will feel at home...)
By the way maybe we can ask to add "per default" one "page style" on A4 or Letter that have pages numbered?
