PostPosted: Wed Dec 21, 2005 2:02 pm    Post subject: NeoOffice 1.2 Beta release coming soon

FYI. Since I just put out Neo 1.2 Alpha "Patch-7" and the number of bugs being reported is very low, I am planning on releasing NeoOffice 1.2 Beta in the first week of January, 2006.

Very few changes are needed. However, there is two images that need to be changed that I need help with:

A. The following two changes need to be made to the NeoOffice CD label:

1. Replace "1.2 Alpha" with "1.2 Beta".

2. Replace "2003-2005 Patrick Luby" with "2003-2006 Patrick Luby".

B. The following two changes need to be made to the NeoOffice splash screen:

1. Remove the "/J" from the third NeoOffice reference.

2. Replace "2003-2005 Patrick Luby" with "2003-2006 Patrick Luby".

Thanks,

Patrick

This has been a relatively bug-free Alpha, which is great Smile I also like the timing of Beta; I should be around with decent access to the net that week Wink

I look forward to 'recruiting' some more of my colleagues for the beta phase in the new year. On the strength of past experience and confidence in Patrick's and Ed's attentiveness to bug-fixing, I'll be happy to put the 1.2 beta version into 'productive' use with a few key staff (who I can trust to save their work regularly and keep back-ups as they go).

FYI. Since the Neo 1.2 Beta release will be using the same OOo 1.1.5 code that I used in Neo 1.2 Alpha, the next Neo 1.2 Alpha patch will give you the same code as Neo 1.2 Beta. Basically, I am doing a Beta release to bundle al of the Alpha fixes into a single download.

As Ray's post alludes to, there is a psychological "barrier" for some folks when they see the word "Alpha" (and "Beta" and "Release Candidate" as well), so rev'ing from Alpha to Beta will make trying or upgrading Neo 1.2 more palatable for an expanded group of people.

Also, Patrick, if Ed hasn't done the revised splash screen changes for you yet, I can make those changes tomorrow before I disappear....

Smokey,

I sent you the PSD file for the splash screen via e-mail. If you can send me something by next Wednesday or so (December 2Cool that should leave plenty of time for me to include it in the build and distribute the binaries to the mirrors.
