was just playing around with my Panther install and reading the technology pdf from Apple...

now, if you double click on the "soffice" in the program directory of OO it fires up the app and X11! This may be of some good news to Terry or not...

For those of you with 10.3 and the Apple X11 installed give it a shot and see what happens. You may in some cases have to use the "open with" dialog and choose X11 but it should work.

Yes, Panther will fire up automatically when any executable is launched via the finder that links against the X11 libraries. I wasn't aware that it will do it for things launched via scripts, however. That is pretty nifty! I'll need to try it out Smile

(I'm still on 10.2.8...10.3 hasn't become my day to day OS yet)

PostPosted: Sat Nov 08, 2003 6:09 pm    Post subject: it is really neat

I was not even aware that it was supposed to do that...well I was but I wan't if you get my meaning. I read that you were supposed to be able to double click an X app and have it fire up but I did not bang the rocks together on the whole thing. I was figuring it would put them in the apps folder or something....

So after seeing that unix executables have spanking new icon.... I just clicked on soffice and voila! It even works on all the subscripts for like sfax simpress the whole enchilada!

The other cool thing, and your mileage may vary... using the click on executable method seems to cut the start time for OO by about 20 mississippi's (didn't have a stopwatch handy).
