|
I previously used Mac WordPerfect and had it set up to eliminate all but a single space (space bar) if I accidentally typed two spaces (such as between words or after a period). I can't find where to do this in NeoOffice, and it doesn't seem to be addressed in the Help contents. Is there a place to set a preference for allowing only one space after a period and between words, even if the typist tries to put in two? Thank you. |

Hmm, the auto-correct feature seems not to pick up on this. But what certainly works is Find & Replace and also the IannzFindReplace macro which also finds other (even non-printing) characters NeoO's inbuilt Find & Replace cannot find.

Martin, I've been using find and replace, but had hoped there was a way to set preferences to do it on the fly, as I don't always remember to find/replace when I'm done with a document. Since I edit for publication, I sometimes don't see the extra spaces I have inadvertently inserted until after the document has been published. Of course, then they jump at me. |

That's probably a good candidate for an enhancement request at OpenOffice.org for an addtion to the auto-correct./auto-format features; I just did a cursory search and didn't find it already filed.

On reflection I thought I had seen this in NeoO before. Go to Autoformat/Autocorrect > Options. There is an otion for ignoring double spaces. "Ignore" means here "ignore the input of double spaces and output only one". |

Glenner, Okay. I looked there already. Today I looked again. I didn't see it before, but now it's there. How did I miss it the first time? I don't know. Maybe learning-new-wordprocessor fatigue. At any rate, thanks a million! |

No problem at all. I have been through WordPerfect, Word, OpenOffice, NeoOffice myself. I used to be in publishing and for some reason they were adamant to put two spaces IN rather than take them out - but there you go. |

Glenner, I don't know why (always did wonder why), but two spaces were required after a period through electric typewriters, then with word processing and computers it changed to one space (although some old-timers, publishers and contributors alike, are still stuck on two spaces). Despite my best efforts, my fingers sometimes still want to put in two spaces. |
