Hi
I want to be able to double click a word document and have it open up in neooffice. Does anyone have any suggestions? Right now it opens up in Microsoft Word.

Open Finder'
Highlight a .doc file and right click it (sorry for you if you have a one button mouse, I don't know which button you need to click at the same time for the same effect);
towards the bottom of the Info dialogue that pops up make sure the "Open With" tab is open;
Select NeoOffice from the drop down menu;
Click on the "Change All" button - job done (unless I forget something).
You should now be able to open any Word file with the .doc extension with the double click you want. If there are other filetypes you want to do the same with, follow the same procedure with them.

All the above,
Right Click = CNTL+Click
Change types .DOC for Word, .XLS for Excel, .PPT/.PPS for PowerPoint

I still cannot get Neo Office to be set as my default. I found the "open with" but not the "change all". Any tips? |

There's maybe a missing step in there somewhere.
1. Select a file in the Finder
2. Cmd-I (or "Get Info" from the File menu)
3. Expand the "Open with:" section of the Get Info window
4. Select Neo in the drop-down menu
5. Hit the "Change All..." button and then "OK" in the "Are you sure" dialogue.
If that doesn't work, there's some bizarre problem somewhere.

Also, depending on your OS X version, the wording may be slightly different than "Change all" rather instead may read something like "Open all documents of this type with this Appliocation" or thereabouts... but the button will be about in the same location within the expanded window Get Info box. |

I have *had* to make NeoOffice my default recently, because my copy of Office v.X kept crashing before takeoff. So I am now winging it with Neo as my program. It's had one good offshoot: my wife is now fairly happily using Neo for the first time |

The ol' "uh, yeah, sorry dear that other program just won't cooperate right now, but I'm still working it" trick. I like it!!!!
More of us need to try it, it works! |
