ah, then this person does not want a command line neo, but rather a program that runs on the command line that can read oo.o document files. such a thing should be easy, esp with ODT.

though i'd reccon that most of the things you'd want to do, you couldn't, because so much of what we do in an office suite is graphically based now.

now, if the goal is automation, meaning running features or filters or whathaveyou from a script, that is a different monster. one that would require ninjas, tomahawks and maybe even space marines.

Ok, so, now I'm really confused about who fooling whom, so, before anybody comes up with a specification & release plan, I officially declare that the idea of porting Neo to the command line was meant as a joke, playing with other quite similar pointless (and not seriously intended, as far as I understood Shocked ) porting ideas of this thread.

Am I being fooled now?

ROTFL!

Unfortunately, as doctype noted, somewhere along the way the humor got lost in translation Sad

Back to the original sub-thread, the claim that Apple will drop Java 1.4 strikes me as similar to ericb's constant baseless claim that Apple will drop X11 in the next release of Mac OS X.

Unlike that far-fetched claim, however, there's at least some possibility that Apple will start phasing out Java 1.4.2, but since they're just now removing Java 1.3.1 from the OS (but only on 10.4 Intel, because they didn't want to port it), I don't think it's *highly* likely.

Only time will tell, of course; hopefully at WWDC with enough lead time for more porting, if needed....

But my query as to what will happen when Java 1.4 is not part of the OS was not a joke. What is the plan to deal with that?

Please don't obfuscate by asking again why I think it's going away. It will happen. Only question is when. Everybody who posted after the first time I asked has just been spamming. PLuby, can you or somebody on your development team please share with us what you will do when this contingency occurs?

Thanks.

When we need to we move to Java 1.5. Same thing we did when moving from 1.3.1 to 1.4 (1.3 isn't supported on Mactel).

We still support Mac OS X 10.3 on which no version of Java is available past 1.4.2, so that's what we use.

It was obviously a joke. I didn't realize that "the humor got lost in translation".
