Excuse me for the off-topic but I'm looking for a way to make MAC OS X "sound" like MAC OS 9... only for a whim! An attack of sentimentality...!!!

I don't know if it's possible. Do you want the same sound at startup in OS X as in OS 9? You may look in System Preferences/System. If you have an icon "Classic" perhaps there is a possibility

The only thing I'm aware of that does that is this haxie from Unsanity.
