Hello.
Please help me. I was using Neooffice 1.2; it had a portuguese interface and the spellchecker was perfect.
Now i changed to 2.0.
I made no change; i don´t have the interface in Portuguese and worst of all i can´t spellcheck in Portuguese.
What can i do?
Can anyone help me?.
Thank you.

Did you download and install the Portuguese language pack from the Early Access Program downloads page? To get non-English languages, you'll need to first install the main 2.0 Alpha, and then install the Language Pack for your desired language.

2. To add a Portuguese spellchecker, select the File -> Wizards -> Install New Dictionaries menu to download the spellchecker.
I'm really puzzled here, which is odd because I used to know exactly what was going on.
1. I thought the language packs included the relevant dictionaries/thesauri/hyphenation files.
2. I've installed the French language pack in Neo 2 (a separate install from Neo 1.2, which is in another location until bug reports comparing the two vanish), set my OS UI language to French to activate the French UI and French dictionary, and launched Neo. Neo claims the French dictionary is installed and correctly spell-checks some French words--but not others....
3. When I look in Neo/Contents/share/dict/ooo, there's no French anything. There are, however, dictionaries for 3 variants of German, Hungarian, Italian, Czech, Dutch, Danish hyphenation, Russian hyphenation, Swahili, and Thai (in addition to en-US and en-GB that should be standard in the en-only binary). I've installed none of those; where did they come from?
What is going on here?
(And, if the policy is going to be "install the dictionary/etc. via DicOOo" (which, to me, seems like an annoyance when you're already grabbing a langpack installer--which in the past installed those for you--then the original binary should ship with only en-US and en-GB resources instead of a random assortment?)

Welcome to OOo 2.0.
OOo 2.0 does not ship more than a handful of dictionaries and the DicOOo is *the* way to install new dictionaries. In Neo 1.x, I used to manually download and package the extra dictionaries that OOo did not include and then used a huge amount of custom code to dance around OOo's huge performance bottlenecks in its spellchecker. However, since the OOo 2.0 binaries are 50% larger (that's 40 MB compressed!), bundling all those add-ons for the big European and Asian languages got squeezed out. Also, I couldn't put them in the language packs because I would have to reimplement all my custom code in C++. Reimplementing the preferences importing and patch checking (which are much simpler) took a huge amount of time so this isn't going to happen.
In other words, with Neo 2.0, we now use the standard OOo behavior that exists on Windows and Linux.

Welcome to OOo 2.0.
Rah rah Let's make things even messier and more illogical

but completely understandable.

I'd file a bug in the OOo IssueZilla that shipping a random collection of partial dictionaries with the English binary is bizarre and broken behavior, but it'd never get fixed....
I take it, however, that I'm the only one for whom invoking FontOOo and DictOOo from the Wizards menu does not produce any action?

They have a Summer of Code project on using the native spellchecker. Actually, they have several porting projects that neatly complement Neo 2.
The only exception is the native font handling project, which does overlap. Perhaps not coincidentally, only the latter is mentored by Eric Bachard. The other porting projects are mentored by proper Sun engineers.
Best wishes,
Oscar

That is good news as the current spellchecker is getting very long in the tooth. In Neo 2.0 and OOo 2.0, loading of the initial English-only dictionaries is significantly longer than before.
Kevin Hendricks implemented back in the OOo 1.0.x days. Meanwhile, the OOo code keeps changing around it. Sun's engineers make their code work with a proprietary spellchecker using proprietary code to put into StarOffice so the existing OOo spellchecker support has been orphaned for quite a while.
