Eheheh, I saw that video already and what came into my mind was "who would be so crazy to let his kitty scratch his brand new MBP just for a silly video?" (consider here in Italy a MBP costs at least 10% more than in USA... I own one and I had to give away every single drop of my blood to buy it...)
Anyway, thanks again for the answers. I still don't love the ship, but I really appreciate the effort of every person working on this project. I would love to help, too, but I have too much to do for my exams and my graduation, so that...
Well, as I didn't like the icon of NeoOffice I was working on a new one last year. If you are interested to see the idea ... post it here (but it will be a new ship).

Just a little note to say that I haven't disappeared. After all the sudden icon designing activity I haven't done anything this week. I've been busy socialising with carbon based life forms but I'll get some 16x16 versions up for comment soon.

"socialising with carbon based life forms" is a VERY important task. Best to live a balanced life.
There is more to life then just computers, tho my wife doesn't think I know that!
boskop, new ideas are always welcome. Who knows what the future may bring.
I do think that we are pretty far along with finalizing the current icon design set.
I like the ship... (old and new form)
but having mostly 16px document Icons it's got to be a little more pronounced... or better not be in a marble - make the ship the main motiv. The silhouette of an icon is also a part of distinction.
Talking of ahig: what is the point of making a "real" apple version of ooo and not following the ahig where possible? As i already mentioned, silhouette is a way of object distinction. Document icons normally share the same form and size (pice of paper with a bent down top right corner). By having another object hanging over the edge we break that convention.
A general thought on ahig and open source
I like linux and I like OS X for what they are.
Linux is the land of the free, just do as you like. The path(OS) is the Goal.
OS X is a tool. I don't want to mess with the OS, it just has to work the way I expect (defined by ahig), so I can have my WORK done.
just another 2 cents... if they would only go to the donations
Mike
PS. Same goes for the app icon. I have the dock at minimum size (16px)... at this size you can make out the really speaking icons
FYI. Since I will be releasing the last of the Neo 2.0 Alpha series in a few days (the current EAP is ending), Ed and I have targeted August 2006 for the start of the EAP for the Neo 2.0 Aqua Beta release.
I am posting this here because in order to be included in that release, I will need all of the new icons, splash screen, and other image files in my hands by mid-July. I need to fuss these items into my build and the last couple of weeks before a release are already reserved for my normal pre-release activities (e.g. pulling my hair out trying to fix that last few major bugs).
So, if all of you can get a set of new icons finalized by June 15th, I will include them in the Aqua Beta release. In general, I don't care what they look like except for one thing: I like the ship very, very much and I don't want to see it go. Call me stubborn, but I've grown very attached to the ship logo over the last few years.
OK. To ensure an orderly integration into the build, can create a zip file (or some other package, I don't care) that has the following items in it and either attach it to a new bug in Bugzilla or post the URL where I can download it:
1. All of the images in the format that is needed by NeoOffice. Icons should be *.icns files and the splash screen and other images should be *.bmp files.
2. Provide source files (preferably *.psd files but I'm not picky) for each of the images.
3. Include a file that states who has copyright to all of the source and image files and what license they can be modified and redestributed under. For NeoOffice to use these files, they must be licensed under the LGPL or GPL licenses or any other license that is compatible with those licenses. If you used anyone elses work (e.g. Apple's icons or images), you need to reference their copyright and make sure that their license is compatible with LGPL and GPL. This is very, very important and I won't put anything in NeoOffice unless it is clear that it is compatible with the LGPL or GPL.
4. I'd prefer that you name your file names the same as the names currently used in NeoOffice. However, if you must use different file names, include a file that tells me where these files are supposed to go in a NeoOffice installation. If you use the same files names as the existing NeoOffice files, then this is unnecessary. But if you use different file names, I will need a cross-reference to ensure that I put your files in the correct place.
I know the copyright and licensing stuff is a pain, but it is not something that an open-source project can ignore.

I'm also confused by this. Should I buy some Uranium to power my flux capacitor?
If I work fast I can complete the icon set within a few days - it's the process of review and revision that eats the time. Assuming I post 16x16 icons for comment this weekend and redesign mid-week I can probably have the package ready for download the next weekend of 8-9 July.

All of this is OK. I will make a DMG with Photoshop source files, bmp images and OS X icon files, using the original .icns file names, with a copyright notice and the GPL license. I will post the link to this thread.
If we want Neo icons in the app and in the toolbar (and I think we do), those need to be PNGs. I need to finish testing and verifying icon cvs locations for all of these (OOo duplicates icons a lot for some reason), but I'm pretty sure I have them nailed. It's just tedious to manually check each one
