I've been wondering for some time now about the titles under our user names. (Blue Pill, Red Pill, Merovingian, etc.) From comments in several posts, and the fact that mine keeps changing, I presume they are related to number of posts and/or length of forum membership.
Is there a list or an explanation somewhere? Are there more factors than those I've named in the titles?
Just curious.... |

Oh yeah, custom avatars are also done with special ranks as the forum system is "locked down" and doesn't allow random people to upload files to the server since GIF/JPEG/TIFF/etc. buffer overflow attacks on browsers are a reality and not just a theory

I've just noticed I've been elevated to "Oracle", defined in wikipedia thus:
"An oracle is a person or agency considered to be a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion; an infallible authority, usually spiritual in nature."

And what's an Operator?
Sounds subversive to me. |

Someone who pushes buttons?
Anyway, 28 more postings and I get to see what your title is after 1000 messages .
Best wishes,

An operator is a type of mathematical function (according to Wikipedia)

A Town Crier, perhaps ? Or is that the title for an even higher post count, like Smokey's ? |

Nah, Town Crier is a custom name for Smokey. We lobbied Ed for it .
Though I never figured out how Jake got his Ninja.
There's not too many people with a custom title. And I'm not solliciting for one .
Best wishes,

It involves tomohawks, igloos, and how far one can run...and ironically, boy scouts...(good thing we didn't walk away with a bundle of those 2x4s!)
The "operator" in the matrix series was the human who would stay with the hovercraft while the others were in the matrix and was the person who they would call to get advice and decode what was going on in the matrix from the outside view

It's the page that shows up when you type "operator" in the search box. Here's the disambiguation page. |

I am more familiar with the second explanation for Operator:
Quote: | Operator (biology), a segment of DNA regulating the activity of genes. |
We always called it an Operon, though, not an Operator. |

If you read the full definition, you'll see that an operator is linked to an operon, or something like that. |
