Can I turn off auto numbering of paragraphs?

I would like to turn off auto numbering of paragraphs somehow. I have modified the paragraph style "Default" that I'm using so that the numbering style is none, but every time I lead a line with number and hit return it automatically numbers the next line for me anyway. I cant find a solution by searching the help or this site.

Does anyone know how to disable this "feature"?

surprisingly this was easier to find in Word than Writer... but here ya go.

Choose Tools - AutoCorrect/AutoFormat - Options tab

deselect the "Apply Numbering" option

and that's it.
