Hello,
This my last try before giving up on OOo...
I am using the latest version of Panther, X11, and trying to install openoffice 1.0.3
During the installation process of OOo, the installer was complaining the xDarwin was not found on my system, and that the applescripts wouldn't be able to start OOo.
Do i need to have xDarwin to run OOo? Isn't just X11 enough?
I was trying to launch OOo with the inlcuded Start OOo app, but it just gave a message that XDarwin was not found, and stopped. I tried to change to X11 in preferences, but whenever i open prefs, it still reverts back to xDarwin, and gives the same xdarwin not found message upon launching OOo.
If you have any suggestions, please share them with me,

No, you don't need XDarwin to run OOo. You can use Apple X11. The error message you received from the 1.0.3 installer is actually a mistake. It's a remnant from the original installer sources that wasn't removed if the "Apple X11" option is chosen.
In terms of starting OOo...that seems bizarre that Start OpenOffice.org doesn't seem to be accepting the switch to Apple X11. If you can't get Start OOo to take, you can try launching OpenOffice.org manually from the xterm. Alternatively, if you're on Panther, just try double clicking "/Applications/OpenOffice.org1.0.3/program/soffice" in the Finder. That also worked last time I tried it on a Panther box.

hmm...yeah, Start OOo is the program that does the Finder association for normal 1.0.3 installations. You may want to try getting the latest and greatest Start OOo from Terry's website:
I believe the latest should be 1.0b8. Also try getting rid of your StartOOo preferences (home directory/Library/Preferences/org.OpenOffice.Start.plist). Then you should be able to point it to Apple X11 as the default X server.
If that doesn't take, you may want to try seeing if OroborOSX v0.9 can get the associations for you
