On the office computer all I have is dialup internet servce. Does this mean that I will need to connect to the internet in order to use Help?
It's not a problem on the home computer with DSL.

Read closer. Did I say anything about changing the general support? No, I did not.
This is now the third time in this forum topic that the code *always* opened a browser for the Help :: Suport menu item. We just eliminated a step *for that single menu item*.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I'm at a Cont. Ed event and don't have either of my computers with Neo on them here with me and I wasn't clear exactly what was being changed.

I have been offline for a couple of days finalising a release of the Guide, so I missed this exchange. Basically, it's all good news . We are go for lift-off, but I would ask others not to download for couple of days while Ed and Patrick and Jacqueline get copies of what they need. The download limits on my yahoo site are such that a couple of downloads of the Guide puts the site offline for a few hours. Patrick and Ed have kindly worked out a way to host it soon [after the EAP program is completed], so it won't be long before it's out there, and hopefully being widely used.
In brief, what we have is what we call a 0.9 release, because it's not quite 1.0, mainly to do with some formatting issues [a couple of blank pages where they shouldn't be - that sort of thing]. However, It is very usable as is, for individuals and groups. I am delighted to say that the pdf's table of contents is directly clickable , and also displays in a side window with all major headings and chapters. There's also a usable alpha index at the back. For those who have been scared off by the size [500+ pages], let me reassure you: Jacqueline and I have deliberately set it up so that you can print and use single chapters at a time for yourself and more particularly for training groups [eg a chapter on Write with its own front pages, one on Calc, on Base, on Impress etc].
Last but far from least, apart from thanking my wonderful co-editor Jacqueline, I always acknowledge a huge debt to the late Gerry Singleton, who had developed the original guide for OpenOffice.org on Windows and Linux, from which we have developed this OS X and NeoOffice guide. Without Gerry, I would not be writing this note to you about a new NeoOffice Guide.
I am off to Sydney and Darwin for a couple of weeks, so any queries should come to jgd here please.

Oh go on with the Spanish translation, if you've time and feel up to that .
The only version is the English one. My dream : to get a French version, but I'll not be able to do that, sad.

FYI. Ed and I have put all of the source and PDF files for the NeoOffice User Guide and the following URL:
http://sally.neooffice.org/neojava_userguide/NeoOffice_User_Guide.pdf
Also, I have added a link to it in the "Download NeoOffice" section of each Trinity page.
Feel free to add a link to it in the NeoWiki.

Thanks, Patrick. I've replaced the old link on the Documentation and Related Resources page with the link you provided here.

Thanks Patrick. I'm sure Peter will be happy (I'm happy )
The link you provide allows to download the PDF file, not the sources which I found at
http://sally.neooffice.org/neojava_userguide/userguide
Lorinda,
Maybe we should give the two links on the wiki?

Done! (I can undo it if there's a reason not to have both links there). |

Good, you found the sources. I hope we have them all there.
I'm very happy that we can provide the web space and bandwidth to host this wonderful document.
Thank you Jacqueline and Peter for putting this massive project together.

Yes, it's complete.
To find the files showing the differences between the OOo guide and our NeoOffice guide, the user has to go to:
http://sally.neooffice.org/neojava_userguide/ooouserguide_diffs/
But, for the "ordinary" user, it's totally useless. Thus it's not necessary to provide that link on the wiki.

Thanks Lorinda. For users with a dial-up connection it's essential to have access to small files.

Don't forget about cURL. cURL really is an excellent tool for downloading large files over slow, flaky connections.
