FYI. After I was able to configure download.neooffice.org to seemlessly serve pages from www.planamesa.com, I talked to JakeOSX offline about do something similar for NeoWiki. The real feature of doing this server name aliasing is that if something should happen to either planamesa.com or sixthcrusade.com (both use third-party webhosting and both have gone down for extended periods of time in the past), we can cobble together a new server with the same content from backups and merely point the appropriate *.neooffice.org alias to the new server.

Anyway, JakeOSX and I got neowiki.neooffice.org to work yesterday. It is not as seemless as planamesa.com yet as http://neowiki.neooffice.org/ still redirects to neowiki.sixthcrusade.com, but direct links to NeoWiki content (e.g. http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/Main_Page) already works.

One thing I should add: in order for the us to make use of these new aliases if planamesa.com or sixthcrasade go down, we probably should start changing any links to planamesa.com, planamesa.net, and sixthcrusade.com to their new *.neooffice.org aliases. The existing links will continue working without a problem. But if a server goes down and we need to move it, then they will break. So there isn't any hurry, but it's just something that we should start doing when we edit any NeoWiki pages.

So here is the complete list:

Old server name - New server name:

www.planamesa.com - download.neooffice.org
www.planamesa.net - eap.neooffice.org
neowiki.sixthcrusade.com - neowiki.neooffice.org

Sweet Smile I was going to ask about doing that. I went through the wiki last night and replaced links to planamesa.com with links to d.n.o in active content. I don't think we have any links to planamesa.net; there may be a few links in the wiki back to itself (the clickpic image thing comes to mind).

As Patrick said, we can fix links as we come across them.

Oh, there's one problem Sad

Images uploaded to the wiki (as well as the logo image) all have http://sixthcrusade.com/images/ paths Sad (rather than http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/image paths), so they won't work with the alias and will be "hard-coded" in any backup Sad

I can probably work with JakeOSX to fix that. I've installed a couple of Wiki's in the past so I'm pretty familiar with how things are laid out on the server.

BTW, I've sent JakeOSX a PM with some ideas of where I think the http://neowiki.neooffice.org/ redirect is occurring.

Something just? changed such that when you edit a page on neowiki.neooffice.org, the "post-edit reload" now tries to use a URL like

http://neowiki.neooffice.org/neowiki/index.php/Template:NeoPatchVer

instead of

http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/Template:NeoPatchVer

I'm pretty sure this worked right last night....

(The edit is committed properly; it's just the "reload" of the page that fails.)

Jake and I were trying to get the redirect from http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/ to http://neowiki.neooffice.org/ to work.

Does everything work now?

I am happy that the new neooffice.org aliases give a kind of independence of the server infrastructure, and, as you know Patrick, I am also more comfortable with the new neowiki domain name.

Cheers.

FYI. JakeOSX got http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/ to redirect to http://neowiki.neooffice.org/ today.

I did notice that in Safari, http://neowiki.neooffice.org/ shows neowiki.sixthcrudsade.com for a moment for showing http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/Main_Page, but there might not be much we can do about that as it appears to be related to JakeOSX's webhosting provider's Apache configuration.

GREAT... but I can't access! Crying or Very sad
I have to ask to my friends of the "proxy filter" that allow the pages... but I have to know the directions:

Well, the pages of the neowiki are on:
http://neowiki.neooffice.org

and the images are on:
http://sixthcrusade.com

right?
Thank you!

Right now, http://wiki.neooffice.org is an alias to Ed's website. We could/should probably redirect or alias it to http://neowiki.neooffice.org ...

I checked Ed's DNS server and wiki.neooffice.org was never had an IP or alias assigned to it. So, you should probably change any links from wiki.neooffice.org to neowiki.neooffice.org.
