PostPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:33 pm    Post subject: 2.1 EA Patch 1 - Open dialog: long file name box problem

In the Open dialog when I rest the mouse pointer over a long file name (partially shown) , the box that appears, does not display the full name but the gray texture . I notice the same problem in Save, Export,.. dialogs .
Waiting doesn't help: boxes still textured, and if you have a lot you can't see anything without clicks . Names could sometimes appear if I move the pointer and rest again, and it seems related to their lenght and their number.
It happens also if the nams are grayed out ; and with columns or list view.
It's reproducible with a fresh new user.
2.1EA Patch1 , iMac ppc 10.4.8 (still) , Java is last version .

Every lenght that doesn't fit the column is usually not displayed the first time.

Edit: I got screenshots .

The tooltips that appear in the Open/Save dialogs are not displayed by Neo, but rather by Cocoa itself. If you can, post a screenshot...but from the description above it seems like you found another Cocoa bug. Not even Apple is perfect (gasp!) Very Happy

You should take a look at the last comment in bug 2212 where mickeyinlalaland fixed similar Mac OS X screwy behavior by running repair permissions from the Mac OS X installation disk.

Offtopic, but the IT guy at my own company regularly runs the "verify permissions" in disk utility after every update and, usually, the tool finds problems. I don't do this myself, but having seen the repair logs myself even for machines that have just stock sofware on them it's a good call to add this step after each Apple system update.

I updated to 10.4.9 and repaired my disk's permissions, but the problem still occurs. I also tried with Safari and Preview, but their dialogs displayed the files' names correctly.

I updated to 10.4.9 too. And I was curious to see the results , but first, I had a kernel panic ( unrelated to neo )...Apple is not perfect...btw now I can sync my phone.
The problem is still present .
I usually check for bad permissions, and I did this time in both ways: booting from installation disk and as usual. These rectangular boxes are still aqua textured.

Have you tried quitting NeoOffice and deleting the ~/Library/Preferences/org.neooffice.neooffice.plist file?

Patrick,
I've just trashed the plist, and restarted NeoOffice, but didn't help.
Logged out too.

Then I trashed NeoOffice.app EA Patch 1 , and surprise, NO texture in the box but full file name, as expected.

Installed again EA Patch 1 , and got back the texture.

Maybe I can now install the current test patch.

OK. So file a bug in Bugzilla and provide clear, reproducible steps. I cannot even get a floating window to appear so please provide exact steps that we can do to reproduce this bug.

I've added a list of three steps to reproduce the bug in bug 2243.
