So I believe Pavel's recent questions here have really just been trying to bait us so he can rip quotes out of context:
http://blog.janik.cz/archives/2007/04/01/T00_05_47/
Yeah it makes no sense to me either. I met him in person so I know he has a good grasp on English and is a reasonable guy; I wonder if he's just drunk (been there/going there myself...)
Hey asshat. On April Fool's don't start publishing unfounded claims and false information about your competitors' plans. That's called slander and libel. Granted, OOo has used the same PR tactics in the past so I guess I'm not surprised of the drivel eminating from someone who has been suspected of wearing an ass as a hat.
Nothing good has ever come out of the Czech republic except hockey players and appeasement. Granted, I hear absinthe is still legal, and I dig since the green meance can really open your eyes man.......

I have difficulty finding even a single cogent thought in his rant.
If you can discern one, please let me know.
In the meantime I look forward to his source "improvements" and adapting those that are worthy for NeoOffice.

I don't know as I would get to uptight about Pavels comments. It looks to me like an April Fools kind of column.
Essentially what Pavel's second paragraph says is, "the NeoOffice developers got so frustrated with 'Windows' engineers mucking around deep inside the OOo code to improve the way it works on Windows and thus screwing up the way it worked on the Mac and other platforms that the next version of NeoOffice is going to be based not on OOo but on AbiWord (or some other Mac compatible program)"
The first paragraph with all the comments about registered trademarks and licensing is basically mocking both the OOo Mac porting team and the NeoOffice supporters about the sniping that goes back an forth.

after taking several ... deep breaths,
I agree that this look like a April Fools post.
I like to think that Pavel knows enough what is happening with the code. And understands that some changes to the base OOo code benefits Windows while hurting other platforms. ( or at least, that is "one" of my ... opinions )
Let's wait, and have a good laugh looking back on this?

And Janacek, and Prague, and cheep beer, and the start of the lifting of the iron curtain, and Kurzweil...
Yes, I concede it very well may be a joke, but even if so I think it's still in poor taste.

Pavel's entry may seem to be written in English, but it is really Czech, translation follows:
Quote: | President Laura Roslyn today announced a ground breaking deal with NeoOffice.org, in which both sides agreed to install the recently released NeoOffice 2.1 office suite on all colonial workstations, including the Battlestar Galactica, provided "the computers aren't networked" (Bill Adama). On rumours about a similar deal with the Cylons, both Patrick Luby and Edward Peterlin declined to comment. |

Never had so much fun hijacking a thread:
NeoOffice was created from OpenOffice.
It rebelled.
It evolved.
Some even think it looks like OpenOffice.
And it has a plan!
... now back to my cave. |

At least we are a bit less idiot until 2008.

Well, kind of. But then I have no idea about the inner workings of the code & all that Windows stuff.
Pavel wrote: | In the real world, OpenOffice.org Mac porters look like idiots because they do what is already done ("Why not use NeoOffice?") |
I rather tend to think the "official" Mac porters look a tad silly, because their chief & some of his followers had the great idea to alienate the two biggest experts in the field of porting OpenOffice for the Mac platform before undertaking their huge task. Unfortunately, reading related posts of recent on both sides, it looks like the "ship is sailed" now for good.
Pavel wrote: | In the real world, NeoOffice developers look like idiots because they do what will be useless after native "AQUA" port of OpenOffice.org is finished. |
Definitely not. I am working now at least three years with NeoOffice, and I wouldn't want to miss it. Speculating about the future is one thing (it has a messianic ring to it: the port to come who will make all other ports obsolete), but another is the time you work with a really useful and carefully developed, mostly stable software. And that will stay, I am sure, at least another two years, if not very much longer. |
