As a writer I both love and hate NeoOffice. The thing that most irks me is the way that styles are not universal--or am I just not aware of how to make them universal? As far as I know NeoOffice styles are document-specific. That to me is unacceptable. At least we should have an option for universal styles!

CocaLeaf,
I'm not sure what you mean about Neo Styles being Document-specific?
By definition Styles apply to documents, or you can create new styles, defaults, and/or templates.
Have you checked out Editing Default Styles and Using Templates in the NeoWiki? And other references of OOo Styles??
I have found that Styles in NeoOffice work MUCH better than Styles in MS Word.
They work, do what they say they will do, and stay consistent!
I hope further research will resolve your problems.

I agree with Philip. Once you get used to it, it's quite quick to import styles from other documents or templates. I've had to do it a lot recently, so I've found it quite efficient, although probably not as intuitive as we would expect on a mac. It's about four or five steps via Styles and Formatting window first to Load Styles..., select the type of styles and the document you want to import them from... and there you go. You've added as many styles as there were in that document or template.

Then I should rephrase: styles are template-specific and this is not productive for my needs. I would prefer it if there were a master list and to not be so tied into using templates.
I like very much the NeoOffice's way to work with styles because is very similar to the way of DTP programs work (InDesign, Quark, Scribus, etc). As many users of mac buy that computers for pre-print works, I think that it's the more "pedagogical" way...

Only an opinion, like the yours!
yes! I want, I want...
I am a very lowbrow user. As lowbrow as they come! I don't even change fonts, embed objects, or use a spreadsheet. I imagine if I were a more advanced user I would understand more about the way NeoOffice works. I write a lot but I just need basic things. However, I edit other people's work too and when they send me stuff I run into these problems with not having universal/master lists of styles. That should better explain my needs. Thanks anyway
