What is the secret to selecting multiple pictures or a picture and an object?

I am able to select multiple objects by both methods described in help (select one object and shift click on the second or enclose objects in a box with the selection tool, but I am unable to select multiple pictures or a picture and a text frame. This is stranger than fiction.

The graphics I am trying to group are small jpegs which are anchored to the page.

My purpose in attempting to select a picture and a text frame is to allow me to align them.

I am running OSX 10.4.10 and using the latest version of Neo Office (v21. patch 6).

Alas, I think the secret remains a secret for the moment - certainly in OpenOffice v2.1 and 2.2.1 X11, selecting multiple images (by the means suggested in Help) doesn't work. The reason seems to be that OOo Writer code makes a distinction between internal and external data and won't let you select multiple external data.

The workaround is to create a Draw document and move your images around in that (the multiple selection wirks in Draw), and then embed it in your Writer doc.

See this OpenOffice bug (and vote for it!) and this oooforum discussion for further info.

Have you tried cmd-click (apple-click)?

No key combo will help here - the OpenOffice developers simply didn't include this functionality in the Writer module, for whatever reason. The only option is to do it in Draw and then embed the draw doc.

Thank you for the info. The work-around does the job, although it's "a little" inconvenient. That is an interesting "feature."

Well, add your weight to the votes over at Openoffice.org to resolve this - it's their code that NeoOffice is based on, so the more chivvying they get, the more likely it is that this strange lack in Writer might get addressed.
