|
I have just had a new duplex-capable printer delivered (Brother HL-5250DN) which seems to be a great piece of kit. I bought this because every week I am producing a brochure for our local church and the duplex facility would save me the swapping over of pages. Single copies work absolutely flawlessly and in great quality. But the problem is that when I choose e.g. 50 copies, the brochure is printed uncollated, i.e. the printer first prints 50 copies of page one (both sides) and then of page two (both sides) etc, all properly paginated as a brochure. But what I want it to print is the first complete brochure, then the second brochure etc so that I do not have to manually collate after printing. I should say, that the "Collated" option in the printing dialogue is of course selected. Is this a problem of NeoOffice or the printer driver or am I missing something? Any ideas? |

Press the Preview button in the Print dialog. Then print from the Preview application. If the collation does not work from the Preview application, the problem is your printer. If it works, then the problem is likely NeoOffice.

Just followed your instructions - it collates properly when printing from the Preview application. Thanks, Martin |

Hi Martin,
It may be worth looking in the Printer Features options in the print dialogue. In our case, we have an Océ 3165 which has an additional 'Collate' tick box in the Printer Features choices.
If we have both the General 'Collate' box ticked and this second Printer Features 'Collate' box ticked, one seems to negate the other and the document does not collate!
Our solution for this Océ 3165 is to untick the General 'Collate' box and only tick the Printer Features 'Collate' box (which is selected by default anyway).
Just thought this info might be worth sharing in this case. _________________ Ray Saunders

Ray, thanks for the suggestion. I tried installing a second printer driver that comes with the printer. As in your case it gives access to more printer features in the print menu - but the result is the same: no collation Not a big deal because I can print from Preview. |

FYI. I created bug 2517 today for this issue (my wife ran into the same bug and was not amused when I said "file a bug").
A test patch with a fix for this bug is listed in the bug.

Thanks, Patrick. I had decided that I could live with the added step of printing from Preview. Sorry, should have filed the bug myself. Will try the patch tomorrow. |
