Hi

I want to protect an .xml file with a password but am having trouble.

I read the NeoOffice Help file related to "passwords for protecting contents."
It says the following:

"All documents that are saved in XML format can be saved with a password. Documents that are saved with a password cannot be opened without the password. The content is secured so that it cannot be read with an external editor. This applies to content, graphics and OLE objects.
Turning on protection
Choose File - Save As and mark the Save with password check box. Save the document.
Turning off protection
Open the document, entering the correct password. Choose File - Save As and clear the Save with password check box."

I followed the instructions with a .xml file, but the "save with password" option + box is grayed out and I cannot.

Please help, thank you

Your file must be an OpenDocument file format for password protection to be available; in the help search for "xml file formats"

Thank you. Saving it as (.odt) helped. That makes the Help reference for "passwords for protecting contents" misleading or wrong because it states "All documents that are saved in XML format can be saved with a password"

That's really poorly-worded help text; someone should file a bug on it over at OOo. People in the know understand what it means (xml-based formats, like SX* and OpenDocument, and not .doc and friends), but most users will read that as being able to password-protect a normal xml file (which OOo/Neo can also save).
