So far, a new iMac has been introduced. Aluminum & glass, 20" and 24" glossy displays. I'm not sure if I prefer this or the MacBook Pro. Totally dig the new wireless keyboard though Smile

And now Apple is introducing iLife '08; Steve Jobs : We're replacing one of the apps with something that takes it to a new level.

Steve has been demonstrating the new features of iPhoto (nothing very exciting IMO), and the new .Mac (which appears to be integrated in the "iLife" keynote).

Still no sign of the new app yet.

The new app is iMovie - same name, different application. From MacObserver :

Next up, iMovie 08. We're being woven a tale of how an engineer went on vacation, and came back and wanted to make a great movie in a half an hour. Found he couldn't do it in iMove or Final Cut Pro, so he invented a way to do it. Steve said that Apple loved it so much ("We were blown away"), they decided to completely replace iMovie. It's still being called iMovie, but is this new app with a new icon.

iMovie finally supports AVC HD video, and (unrelated) can publish directly to YouTube.

Steve is now demonstrating iWeb '08.

Best Google integration ever : can insert AdSense directly from iWeb Very Happy

Also iDVD (better performance, new themes) and GarageBand (Magic GarageBand, multi-take recording).

iLife is still $79.

.Mac offers new Web Gallery - integrated with iLife '08 - and 10 GB of storage, $99.95.

FWIW it started raining here.

Here comes the competition : iWork '08.

Keynote, Pages, Numbers (spreadsheet). Steve said : this is a NeoOffice killer (OK, not true).

Price is $79 as usual.

iLife '08, iWork '08 are compatible with Tiger and Leopard.

Steve has been joined on stage by Tim Cook and Phil Schiller for a Q&A.

Some answers from the Q&A :

New iMac is really thin.

Mac mini is being updated today.

Closer integration with Google products : Yes.

What about AMD ? Apple is using Intel processors.

No Excel macro support in Numbers Wink

This wasn't mentioned in any live feed : the 24-inch iMac can be configured with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme processor Smile

Edit : It looks like MacNN and Macworld got the frequency right.

BTW, pictures of the new wired keyboard's side show a power button ...

I like the black surround on the new iMac screens - one of the reasons I never bought an iMac was because its albedo was way too high.

This is also interesting for a number of visitors to this forum:

If you have AppleWorks documents, you can give them a brand-new home in Numbers. They import quickly so you can take advantage of all the flexibility and power of Numbers ’08.

Doesn't look like iWork '08 will be supporting OpenDocument, as it isn't mentioned on the product page anywhere. OOXML, on the other hand, is supported. Odd, since Leopard does ODF and not OOXML...

I'm not really surprised. Apple collaborate with Microsoft (they even promote Office for them). I guess they've given priority to Microsoft's format, and have made a full implementation of OOXML in iWork. TextEdit, on the other hand, only supports formatted text (no pictures, change tracking etc.) so they only had to implement part of the ODF specification in that app. It's still odd that TextEdit doesn't support OOXML though.

TextEdit is one of those old warhorse apps that have been around forever and are overlooked by many users, and my theory is that when new features get added to these apps it means the feature is something the dev team want added, rather than something the marketing department want added. My guess is the OS X dev team favour ODF over MicrO-DuF.
