Hi,
I'm a new mac user, and my son's school is plannning to use smartdraw to teach geography. According to the smartdraw website, there is no Mac compatible version. I realize that I could buy windows and install it on my macbook, but golly!
Is there a drawing format in NeoOffice that can be imported to SmartDraw?
Is there another program similar to Neo Office that can do this, as far as anyone here knows?

Well, the SmartDraw website doesn't really seem to indicate what sort of file formats it can read. This page in our wiki lists the file formats NeoOffice can open and save (or export). Regarding geography specifically, this French site has several collections of maps for NeoOffice Draw and Impress.
It actually looks like the software is something like OmniGraffle, which is a very nice business-oriented drawing program on the Mac (and which once upon a time was included free on pro Macs). Not free or open source, but very much quality software. (There's also ConceptDraw, but I'm not familiar with it.)

Thanks for the helpful reply. I emailed SmartDraw to see what sorts of files they can read and save as.
I looked at Omni Graffel and it seems very good.
I looked at the French site, and saw Atlas 00o2, which is impressive, but wasn't sure if I need to download it, or I already have in as part of NeoDraw? I was thinking that I "should" be able to translate the page (bablefish?) but realized that I don't know how to do that either.
So now I'm looking for more help on translating french sites, and Atlas 00o2 information.
AtlasOOo2 is a collection of map graphics files that you download and put in your OpenOffice/NeoOffice gallery, after which you have access to them from within the app as the bases for Draw images or Impress slides.

I'm not able to translate in good English all the French site… But I can help to install atlasooo.
Download the atlasooo.zip, uncompress it and copy all the content, without changing it, in
~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-2.2/user/gallery (if you have installed NeoOffice2.2.1 EA)
or
~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-2.1/user/gallery.
Quit and relaunch NeoOffice.
But I'm not sure that it can help you, because all the names, legends, etc. are in French and I don't figure out how to change them.

The names, legends etc. are not directly editable as the images are vector graphics created in PaintShop Pro according to their creator.

Thanks for the information about OO.o Atlas. I think that it wouldn't work in this situation because the nature of the teaching excersize is for the kids to "draw" their own maps, and lable them themselves. Good to know about though.

Ah, I wasn't sure what the intent of the exercise might be.
From that list, it seems there's quite a bit of overlap between the SmartDraw-supported formats and NeoOffice-supported formats (as well as other drawing apps). So your son could create his maps in NeoOffice and export them as WMF files (Windows Metafiles; editable vector graphics) and then he or the teachers could open them in SmartDraw....
