Or is my low-tech approach missing something?

Thanks Patrick,

That was the kind of low-tech idea I was asking about,
Just using something like superscript (1), (2), and such to reduce the number of "****** * * * * *'s.
- There are URL, and [1] URL links already in the Comparison
- adding superscript (1), (2), would fit right in - until we have something better!

New Question -
I was on another blog using same/similar Wiki as NeoWiki and I was able to place Emoticons at the "Current Cursor Location".
NeoWiki always seems to place these items (including text formatting) at the end of my post/text.

Are we missing something or have a old setting??
- I was using SeaMonkey on both systems.

Philip ( Wow, Look at all the new stuff in Neo's 2.2.1!! Wink )

From an editor point of view, the old Wikipedia references system, which is template-based, looks interesting. I'm not sure what would be required to make it work though:

There were two goals behind this investigation:

1) Tame the ever-increasing number of * used as we add more notes
2) Employ a mechanism that auto-links the reference to the note (and vice-versa) *and* keeps the numbering/note placement in order when we add new references in between two existing references (which we did a number of times for 2.1)--while allowing each table to have its own set of notes just below.

The problem with the regular low-tech way
Code:
<a href="#note-text-1">1</a>
[...]
<a name="note-text-1">1</a> Note text lives here
is that we can't use the <a> tag in the wiki. We can make links in other ways, but we can't create the <a name> part.

Clearly Cite doesn't do what we need, either, for that page. I think our options are "lowest-tech" (continue now as before, except swap other chars for the increasing series of *) or maybe Footnote3 (I also can't tell what is required to get it working, either; maybe just adding their templates to our wiki?).

New iteration of Newmainpage up....

There's also a comparison table on the RetroOffice page (see the link in the RetroOffice box); not sure what else we should add/fix there....

That doesn't seem to be enough; something else is needed Sad

FYI. I have removed the Cite code from the NeoWiki test server.

I suppose the Newmainpage might as well be updated to NeoOffice 2.2.1..

Those bits use shared templates (i.e., there aren't "temp" versions for use with newmainpage only), so I was waiting until 2.2.1 came out of EAP.

I'll do a round of updating a bit later today....
