|
I tried to use the spellchecker in 2.2.1. My text is: thiss is a testt
I select TOOLS – spellcheck
then the window “Continue checking at beginning of document?†shows up.
Even though there are spelling errors there is no entry in the window “Not in directoryâ€.
In TOOLS – Options – Language settings – Writings aids
I have marked all three entries in the upper window and leave the cursor on â€NeoOffice Mac OS X Spelling Checkerâ€
then when pressing EDIT “Czech†pops up in the window “Edit modulesâ€. I select “English (USA) and press CLOSE.
then Back in “Writing aids†I press EDIT again and read “Czechâ€, my modification has been omitted.
In Writing aids – Opions “Check all languages is markedâ€.
However, when I select TOOLS – LANGUAGE – THESAURUS
then I receive a result as expected, for instance: house – dwelling.
Question: What can I do to activate the spelling checker?
Best regards,
Peter |

|
When I start NeoOffice 2.2.1 by clicking on a document, it opens the document, but then presents an Alert Box saying it can't connect to the spellchecker. Unfortunately it is impossible to dismiss this alert box by clicking on OK... it constantly returns, and the rest of the program is inaccessible. I've turned off all the spellchecking in Preferences, and that allows me to use the program, but I wonder if there isn't a way I can use the spellchecker. |

Pay particular attention to this section of the article mickeninlalaland suggested, even if it is not happening in a .doc file.
When you use the first procedure in that section, what language is the text set to? If you set it to English, does the spell check happen correctly?

OK - I may sound like I'm repeating Lorinda's last post; but some new information has been posted on the "Activating Dictionaries and Configuring Spellcheck" Neowiki page you were sent to earlier that specifically addresses the error Could not Contact Spellcheck; so please return the link and read this new information |

|
I followed the instructions in the section of the Wiki on "Auto spellcheck does not work with .doc documents" but setting the default language to "English-US" and checking "enable for this document only" (whatever that means exactly) did not solve the problem. When I open a .doc file, I get the alert message on failing to access the dictionary. I'd like to emphasize that this completely disables NeoOffice. The only recovery is a Force Quit.
I have CocoASpell installed. I'm not sure HunSpell is there. Anyway, NeoOffice does not work in this mode. I can edit .doc files only by disabling all the spell checking.
Thanks to Mickey and Lorinda for the pointers. |

Does moving the CocoASpell.service file and rebooting fix the problem?
Do you have the most recent version of CocoASpell?

Where would I find the CocoASpell.service file, and where would I move it to?
How can I find out the version number of CocoASpell and update it?
Would I be better off with some other spelling service? |

The two folders are near the end of the NeoWiki article that Lorinda's post links to:
~/Library/Services or /Library/Services
Note that the bad files belong to two different third-party spellchecking tools called cocoAspell and Spell Catcher. These tools are not Apple products which is why they seem to mess up the Mac OS X spellchecking support for all Mac OS X applications, not just NeoOffice.

I updated CocoAspell, but the problem recurs.
Is there any way to control the "services" that appear in the Language Preferences except to turn them on and off? For example, is there any way to add CocoASpell to the list? |

I believe that moving the cocoAspell.services file and rebooting is the only way to disable custom spell checking services.

Finishing updating CocoASpell by rebooting seems to have solved this problem.
I did not have to disable the Service.
Thanks to everyone for their help. |
