I just upgraded my NAT router/firewall to one that allows port-forwarding and I punched the apropriate holes in it to allow BT connections.

If all went well, you all should be able to get the NeoOffice and NeoOffice/J binaries and source from http://bytemonsoon.com/.

If it didn't go well, you can download the torrent files from bytemonsoon and point them at your own local copies of the archives and share away! BTW, if anyone has trouble connecting to me (I know, you can't tell exactly who is seeding at any given time.) send me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

Since Bytemonsoon seems to have disappeared, I have placed torrent files at http://Torrents.us/.

Be sure to share the wealth and leave those downloads up and running for as long as you can after your own download is complete!

Thanks for setting up the mirroring! That will really help ease some of the bandwidth issues on our download sites.

I do have a question. I am going to push a new set of NeoOffice/J binaries and source to www.planamesa.com/neojava in the next few days and I will be deleting the old binaries and source since I don't have enough disk space for both. Is there any information that you need to update http://Torrents.us or is there any files that I can post at www.planamesa.com/neojava that will make it easier for http://Torrents.us to get updated when there are changes?

The following new files will be added:

http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/downloads/NeoOfficeJ-0.0.1.dmg
http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/downloads/NeoOfficeJ-0.0.1.src.tar.gz

and the following old files will be deleted:

http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/downloads/NeoOfficeJ-0.0.dmg
http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/downloads/NeoOfficeJ-0.0.src.tar.gz

Thanks,

Patrick

Patrick:

Nope. I just need the new files to create new torrents from (BT creates its own cryptographic hashes.) I'll grab those files as soon as they are available (just checked and they aren't there, yet, or I'd've begun downloading them) and have them available within 48 hrs.

I'll go ahead and leave the old ones up for another couple of days. Probably take them down this weekend.

I won't be able to upload them until this weekend so no need to delete the old ones yet.

When I get the file uploaded (it's about 120 MB), I will post an upgrade here.

Thanks,

Patrick

I forgot to ask you one thing: can you update the bit torrent hash values and URLs in the binary and source download links at http://trinity.neooffice.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=4?

I have commented out the existing values and URLs since they are applicable to last NeoOffice/J version. If you update the values, remove the comments and submit your modifications, I can post them.

Thanks,

Patrick

Aaaargh!!!

I must have really bad luck picking trackers. Less than one day after I get everything moved to torrents.us, the site gets closed by the RIAA/MPAA. (three copies of the Neo/J source were downloaded during that time, however, judging by my uploaded KiB numbers.)

So... I'm in search of a new tracker. I will still do seeding, but I need somebody, somewhere, to set up a stable tracker which can host the torrent files (simple text files not usually much larger than a few KB) on a more long-term basis.

Ed or Patrick:
One of you onced-upon-a-time expressed an interest in setting up a tracker. Well, I stumbled across this: http://www.slinux.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=57. I thought you might be interested. Remember that a tracker only needs to host the torrent files, themselves. None of the torrent files I've generated have been much larger than 8kB, so serving as a tracker would not severely eat into your bandwidth. Wink

~/charles

EDIT: It appears that the slinux.net site has a BT tracker running. While they will likely wish to stick to Linux softwares, I may just ask them to serve as host. Lemme know if you guys are going to or willing to put up a tracker soon, so I can reopen my little mirror. (I'd set up an FTP site, but I really don't wanna open that hole in my firewall and I don't have any more NICs to create a DMZ...

I can easily spare 8K of space at www.planamesa.com/neojava. If I only need to host files that are accessed via HTTP, things are cool. The only thing I can't do is run any server that binds to a port. The only server software my web-hosting company allows is their Apache web server.

So, if I only need to post files, send them to me and explain what I need to do to post and/or update them. My site has excellent bandwidth and I store all of my web files in a private CVS repository so that I can roll back a page to an old version if needed.

Unfortunately, a tracker requires more than just the hosting of .torrent files. Some server-side Python scripts need to be permitted to run and a few edits to your apache.conf and/or httpd.conf files need to be made. It appears that port opening will also be necessary (TCP 6969, I think). See http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/57.html for more complete information on running a tracker.

I don't know how much, if any, of the above is necessary when using the PHPNuke Bit Torrent tracker module (referenced in earlier posting, above).
