|
I noticed yesterday that in Preferences only NeoOffice, Load/Save, Language Settings, NeoOffice Base, Charts and Internet Preference sections show up. Writer, Calc, Impress Preference Sections only if a respective file is open. Is that intentionally or a bug? I rolled back to 2.2.1 which had the same behaviour. |

That's how the OOo "options" dialog works, so it's not a bug. |

|
I have not been able to find the option that controls the frequency of online updating Neo Office, in the location specified in the help menu. (Tools -> Options -> NeoOffice -> Online Update ). The documentation also mentioned that this was controlled by an option during "customized" installation.
"Online Update is a module that can be selected or deselected to be installed. Choose the customized installation in the Setup of NeoOffice."
I tried re-installing the application, but was presented with no option for a customized installation. What am I doing wrong? |

The online update is a feature of OpenOffice.org, on which NeoOffice is based. It is disabled in NeoOffice, because we don't have the infrastructure to offer and maintain this feature. |

Then I would reccommed that status this be reflected in the current documentation. Is some legacy code responsible for periodically triggerring my browser? I have noted with previous version, that the browser sometimes launches after launching Neo Office, and attempts to connect to the Neo Office web page, and I've been trying to control this behavior. |

Thanks for the reference. The behavior described in that thread is exactly what I was observing. It is confusing that the references to an online update capability and a custom install option still appear in the help pages. |

It actually isn't. The NeoOffice patch checking code is currently separate from the online update feature. What Patrick said in the other thread was he was investigating a way to "merge" both systems.
Also, the current version of NeoOffice doesn't open your browser anymore, and opens a webpage within NeoOffice instead. You may want to make sure you're using NeoOffice 2.2.2. |

I recently updated to the latest version, including patch 0. My wife has not yet updated, and her's is still opening the browser... I'll update hers when I get a chance. The documentation DOES reference the online update feature still - I quoted it from the help page in my earlier post. |

That's right. The problem is that the OpenOffice.org build system only allows you to do simple customizations to the Help files (like replacing occurences of OpenOffice.org with NeoOffice, and references to the Ctrl and Alt keys with references to the Cmd and Opt keys). Further customization, such as removing references to the Online Upate feature in Help, would be more difficult to do, and very difficult to maintain. So right now we stick with what can be easily done. |
