I just ordered a CD of OpenOffice, only to learn "after-the-fact" that intermediary software (X11) was needed to run the program on my G5 runing OS X 10.3.4.

I have no interest in doing that and wonder where I can add my name and e-mail address to a list to be notified when the "Native" Mac version will be available. I understand that a "Native" version is under development.

Please DO NOT be put off by the "X11" environment.

X11 is part of Panther, and X11 applications run great on OS X.

Try out GIMP v2.0.0.5 for OS X if you have any doubts - on my 450MHz machine with a dual G4 they run very snappily, on your G5 the results should be just as, but probably moreso, awesome.

The last MacCentral report stated that the public release of an OS X native OpenOffice is sometime in the first quarter of 2006 - so enjoy the X11 environment - after all, the base of OS X is UNIX - and this is just another one of OS X's strengths. Wink

This may sound superfluous, but the closest thing to a native version can be found right here. Just hit the link on the left that says 'NeoOffice/J' under the 'Other Websites' heading.

If you want a Cocoa version, please read the threads dealing with that or consult the NeoWiki before asking why it isn't here yet.
