Size of Files?

I have two files, one in Word 2007, which is 1.2 MB, and then converted to and used in NeoOffice, which is 470, or almost a third of the Word file size. Why is the NeoOffice file so much smaller? Both have lots of embedded spreadsheets and OLE objects throughout.

It may well be because an OpenDocument file is a zipped container of all of the XML source files as well as the embedded graphics and such.

The established Excel format is an uncompressed binary stream.

Zipping the data usually makes a big difference.
