In NeoOffice Writer, if you want to set line spacing, or spacing above/below paragraphs, in points (the most common text spacing unit), you have to change "Measurement Units" to points. Then, ALL measurements are in points -- margins, tab stops etc. You have to figure out that a 3/4" margin is 54 points.

Conversely, if you want to set margins/tabs in inches but you also want to set a fixed line/paragraph spacing, you have to figure out that 14-point spacing is 0.20 inches (not exactly -- it's 0.19444... inches).

Even the lowly, aged AppleWorks lets you set line/paragraph spacing in points while separately permitting margins, tab stops, etc. to be set separately in inches, picas, centimeters, millimeters, etc.

Can the NeoOffice team make the Format>Paragraph>Indents & Spacing >Spacing and >Line Spacing>Fixed units selectable in points, SEPARATE from the default unit of measure?

The feature you want changed is part of NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code. Here is an entry from an OpenOffice forum addressing the issue.

A workaround mentioned there is to specify the desired measurement unit in the dialog box. For example enter "14 pt" when the default measurement is set to inches.

A late thank you for the tip on entering the unit of measure in the box. Great workaround!
