A member of the new OpenOffice.org Community Forums has been having trouble printing both in OOo and Neo. I suggested that they post here about the Neo problems, but they has been unable to register. Here's their post in the other forum:

If their machine is crashing, they have much more serious issues with their machine then OOo or NeoOffice. They need to resolve what is causing the kernel panics on their machine first.

As you can see, the problem must be solved, because I'm able to post this.
It turns out that if you turn the mouse buttons 'on' with this particular combination of keyboard and mouse, you turn off the number pad lock. (No warning of course, that would be too simple.) Then, when you try to use the number pad, the system hangs.
I turned the mouse buttons 'off' again, and Hey Presto! all solved (fingers crossed!).
