In some Applications it is possible to switch to the file by clicking on the title of the file on the top with the cmd key. i.e. photoshop quark, safari (to the main address)...
However, if you would like this feature in the meantime there is a test patch you can download which implements this. Please bear in mind it is just that - a test patch so it may not be perfect. For what it's worth, I've been using it for ages and experienced no problems.
