Since NeoOffice has been using the OpenOffice.org 2.x code, we have been continually chasing font kerning bugs when using the File :: Export as PDF feature. I have known for a long time that the issue was due to OpenOffice.org's rounding of glyph positions when converting between different resolutions. We use 96 DPI for windows, 300 or higher when printing, but OOo insisted on using 72 DPI when exporting to PDF.

Finally I was able to find the OOo code that creates this rounding problem and I believe that I have finally eliminated it. But since changes like this make me nervous, I ask that any people who do a lot of exporting to PDF try the following test patch and let us know if there are any obvious kerning problems like missing spaces or overlapping glyphs.

If the following test patch does not cause any glyph kerning problems, the changes will be released early next week in NeoOffice 2.2.3 Patch 2. Here are links to the test patch:

I tried with many different fonts, accented characters, ligatures (I don't know if it's important, just in case). That worked fine. No problem.
