No, we have no idea. Nor would you, for that matter, if you had to work only with the information you provided.
Please elaborate: what kind of text, where was it in the document, what font, what styling, etc.. Perhaps you could provide the document for us to take a look at.
I may sound somewhat petulant, but you need to be a *lot* more specific for us to trace the cause of your problem.
Best wishes,

There is most likely the problem: you are not opening a .doc file as you said in your original post. Instead, you are opening the new MS Office 2007/2008 .docx format.
Microsoft basically created a brand new file format last year that has nothing in common with the old .doc format so every other application, including NeoOffice, has been busily reverse engineering support for this new format.
As such, the support for this format in non-Microsoft applications will be hit and miss for the near future as the missing pieces slowly get filled in. In the meantime, your safest best is find any application that can open this reasonably well and save it is a .doc (not .docx file).
Sorry NeoOffice is not perfect in this area, but this is the state of matters.

One request: since I cannot really tell what is missing (it looks pretty full of text when I open it with NeoOffice 2.2.3 Patch 1), can you save the file as .doc in MS Word or TextEdit and upload it so that I can compare? I only have MS Word 2004 and that version cannot open .docx files.

When I double-click on the file, TextEdit opens it by default. An image is missing. Then, I save as .doc in TextEdit and NeoOffice opens the document, but the formatting is not well preserved.
One better possibility seems to be to select all in TextEdit, then copy/paste in a new NeoOffice document.
You lose an image, that you can copy/paste from the .docx file opened in NeoOffice.
